Palestine’s ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Tamer Almassri says the Israeli occupation of Palestine undermines international law and the global community must punish Israel.

Speaking in Harare yesterday during the commemoration of the Alnakba Day, (commemorating the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948, and the displacement of a majority of the Palestinian people by Israelis), Ambassador Almassri said Israel should be sanctioned for its violent attacks on Palestine.

From a Palestinian standpoint, he said the people of Palestine will continue to resist the occupation, which he labelled as apartheid.

The ambassador also commended the solidarity and support from the African people. He said Africa supports Palestine and it feels the pain they have, as the continent also suffered from racism, occupation, and foreign interventions in past.

Speaking at the same commemorations, Director for Communications in the Shoulder to Shoulder with Palestine advocacy group Mr. Tendai Makaripe said they were deeply concerned with human rights violations that are taking place in Palestine, perpetuated by Israel.

He said the invasion of Palestine had not received the attention it deserves from the international community, adding that the media should help in exhibiting the problems happening in Palestine.

Alnakba Day is the annual day of commemoration of the Nakba, also known as the Palestinian Catastrophe, which comprised the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948, and the permanent displacement of a majority of the Palestinian people by Israel.
